Anubis

INTRODUCTION

                               Anubis the god of the dead! The shield for the dead and an important egyptian god. Well today I am going to tell you about a really famous god in ancient egypt. Anubis is considered as a half human and a half jackal or in full jackal form wearing a ribbon and holding a flail in the crook in his arm. An egypt jackal is actually a grey wolf. He was a jackal because it was a scavenger which threatened to hurt people to protect the dead. The only known form of him in human form is Ramses the Great II. Sometimes Anubis goes on top of a mummy to protect it. Anubis was also responsible to dictate the fate of the souls. In the legend he is also said to help the process of mummification just like he did to Osiris which was the god to replace him. In the Ptolemaic period Anubis was merged with the greek god Hermes. Hermeanubis occurs in the literature of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. In egypt mythology they weigh the heart of one person or semi-god if your talking about Anubis. Anubis was Maat or truth. If the heart was heavier than the feather then your soul will be devoured by Ammit. People believe that Anubis was a descendent of Ra. But his parents changed over time and guess what one of his new dads was Osiris the one he mummified and took his place. His mom is said to be the godess of the night. Anubis was an important factor for the safety of the dead. Anubis is so popular he made a special appearence on beyblade as mercury anubis. I have no idea how he represented mercury though.

MY OPINION

                                In my opinion I think that Anubis is a important god. I think this because he was the one to protect the dead to make sure they have a safe afterlife. I think that people will like this topic because they would like to know the early peoples religion.
